What inspires me

As a ceramic artist, I am often asked where my inspiration comes from. The short answer is: from everywhere. My strongest influence comes from nature. Living in the beautiful Western North Carolina Mountains, there is no shortage of amazing hikes, waterfalls and grand vistas along the Blue Ridge Parkway to refuel my spirit of creativity.

However, in the busy world today, just a simple walk with my dogs observing trees, plants and seasonal blooming flowers always helps ground me. There is such detail and beauty in the complex veining of leaves and textures of tree bark that constantly have me wondering how I can incorporate these things in my work.

The second source of inspiration comes from other artists. There is such an amazing array of talented creative people with various styles and imagination to draw from. Of course I endeavor to make designs my own by putting my spin on a particular piece making it an original work. In fact, what interests me most is learning new techniques from other artists to improve my own creations.
